POSSESSIVE

There are two ways to express possession: 's (or only  ') or with possessive adjective (my, your, his...)

’S à possessive

General rule:
You add the 's to the one who “possesses” .
 “This is Mary's office.”
 “Bob's house is near here.”
This is used for the one that “possesses in the plural”, where there isn’t S

Child (singular) – children (plural)
Man (singular) – men (plural)

Ex.
“The children's toys are in the living room.”
“The men's department is over there.”

This is not used when the one who “possesses is in plural”, where there is S; in this case just use apostrophe.
“The students' books are in class.”
“The girls' parents are here for the meeting.”

And we also use the apostrophe for names that are historical or biblical and end in S.
Ex.
“Jesus' friends were from Jerusalem.”
“Socrates' lessons were very important.”
